DBB-92

While they were bringing out the money that had been taken into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord that had been given through Moses.(2 Chronicles 34:14)

The Book of the Law of the Lord had most probably been neglected for quite a while as many Christians do with their Bibles even in our day. Wonder why no one had made it a point to search for it, since it was 'God's Word' for his people. Now that it was found accidentally, it was brought to the, then, king of Judah, Josiah. Josiah, was a god fearing king who was in the process of cleansing the land of idolatry. When the words of the book were read out to him, he tore his robes and asked for an expert opinion regarding the law from the prophetess Huldah.

She had 2 messages; one for the nation in general and one for the king. Disaster was decreed for the land and the people because of idolatry and rebellion to God, but for the king, this was the message...'Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. Now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.'...... (2 Chronicles 34:27, 28)

God is just and he watches everything. Nothing is hidden from his presence and he judges righteously as is very evident here. He says,
"This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word." (Isaiah 66:2)
Are we among them that God esteems is a question that we can ask ourselves as we live as believers in a corrupt generation. Humble and contrite in spirit and them who tremble at his word.
